One of the pleasures of growing food on your own land is being able to harvest it and enjoy it with friends and family. This can take the form of autumn soups, roasted vegetables with ethically-sourced local meat, homemade ravioli stuffed with veggies and herbs from the garden, and desserts like apple flan and blueberry pie. In addition, canning and preserving helps to extend the harvest’s bounty through the winter until the cycle repeats - more on that here.

Planning a weekend menu with friends where everyone participates in the food preparation around the kitchen island, along with good wine and music, is a fun way to spend time together and eat some delicious food.

We’ll continue to expand and fine-tune what we grow as we discover more about what works and what we’d like to have more of. Something we’d like to try out this summer is different varieties of lettuce in order to provide a ready supply for salads.

Our fruit trees and berry patch are a few years off producing enough to provide for desserts and jams, but given that SevenMaples is located smack-dab in the middle of the eastern Ontario apple belt means that we have access to almost endless varieties of apples, as well as a number of berry patches just minutes away.
